about us
WHO WE ARE, WHAT WE ARE AND WHY WE'RE HERE

Zazu’s Kitchen is a small Bristol-based company with currently two restaurants in Bristol. The Greenbank is our first pub venture.
Our co-founder Toby likes to tell people, about the origins of our name,: “ A Zazu is an exotic bird which is the first up and last to bed… a bit like us.”.

It’s not actually true. He made it up.

It is an African bird. – a fairly plain one, sadly – and we have no idea about its habits. But Toby’s little jest does sum us up..

Zazus Kitchen is about people, food and neighbourhood. And an all-day service..

We chose to open in Easton because the Greenbank perfectly fits our values and aspirations: an iconic building in the heart of a strong, supportive local community.

We see our job as providing a great local place to meet, socialise, eat, drink, debate, sit peacefully with a good book, send an email, catch up with friends or enjoy a great cup of coffee or glass of wine in the courtyard sun and just be…. All day long.

We began life as a small outpost in a strong, neighbourhood community, Stokes Croft, on the corner of Jamaica St, Bristol.
We’ve since moved on but our roots remain the same.
Being a part of a local community is a key to who we are.

FROM REAL ALES TO FINE WINE AND EVERYTHING IN BETWEEN

As a free house, we are able to offer a wide range of real ales, craft beers and great ciders. With such a wide variety on offer, the only characteristic they all share is quality.

The wine list is pretty good too, encompassing rich winter reds to celebratory champers – a tipple for every occasion.

And from toasting to roasting, we’re really making a stir with our coffee, supplied by local caffeine artisans ‘Extract Roasters’ in St Werburghs.

food
SIMPLE, FRESH AND GOOD VALUE

From cakes and a coffee to quality bar snacks and our range of gastro pizzas and bowls.

All made by our staff fresh, on site.

And the Sunday lunches are a must! No, really… Please give us a ring to check on roast availability, pre-booking a table is strongly recommended.

Much of what we buy is sourced locally. Our meat is ethically sourced and has lived a happy life, and we also cater for vegetarians and vegans on all areas of our menus. All of our pizzas are stone baked using flour from Shipton Mill, in the Cotswolds. We are proud of our other wonderful suppliers too, who include, in no particular order: Chefs Deli, French Garden, Powells of Olveston, Wings of St Mawes, The Bristol Sweet Mart and Chaudhrys Mega Mart

Unity Instruments Folk Fundraiser - Part 4
Thursday 8th February 7:30 - 11pm

Unity Instruments Collective return once again to The Greenbank Pub in Easton with our Fourth Folk Feast.

That’s right we’re back to bring you more sweet sounds and cosy vibes all for the worthy cause of raising money to make Music and Art accessible to refugees here in Bristol and in Mainland Europe.

We’re treating you to some incredible talent with musicians from some of the biggest bands in the Bristol folk-scene.

Warming you up on this winter’s evening will be:

Solanum & Goldsmith

This new folk-duo features Tamsin from Solana and Sid from Fitty Gomash. Not sure about the rest of you but we’re extremely excited to experience the sounds that these two incredibly talented musicians will create together!

The Striking Clock

With a new arrangement made up of Dom from More Dogs than People and Callum from Young Waters (You may recognise these band names from Folk Fundraiser – part 1.) this is another amazing new folk act not to be missed!

Cut Throat Francis

Yes bring your dancing shoes this time everyone, it’s gonna end up being a lively one! To top it all off for the evening we are delighted to invite to the stage Cut Throat Francis.

“Cut Throat Francis are a 4 piece acoustic band that blend together folk, swing as well as some tasty Eastern European influences with an emphasis on having a good ol’ knees up.

Oley!”

check them out here:

Wow… Some tasty folk to feast on here! Come down and support our cause:

Unity Instruments Collective have been raising money and donating musical instruments to Refugees and Asylum Seekers in the Bristol area since November last year, and have seen the positivity a greater access to music and creativity can bring.

Some of our past missions:

https://www.facebook.com/UnityInstrumentsCollective/posts/524742104569871

We are currently in the process of organising a mission to the camps in Northern France, with a truck-full of instruments and a crew of lovely people to hopefully bring some joy to the people who have to live there.

If you have a spare instrument and would like to donate it, please bring it along with you to the gig!

See you there!
