COMMUNITY PUB / GOOD FOOD / SPECIALIST ALES

Here at The Greenbank, its all about the community.

About providing the best possible service for the neighbourhood. Whether that is serving up a cracking Sunday Roast, a decent pint, glass of wine, great band or space for local groups.

Hope to see you soon. xx

Check out our programme of daily events. Its little wonder the Western Daily Press recently named us

Open: Sun - Thurs 11am - 12midnight (last orders 11.30pm); Fri-Sat 11am - 1am (last orders 12.30pm)

about us
Who we are, what we are and why we're here

Zazu’s Kitchen is a small Bristol-based company with currently two restaurants in Bristol. The Greenbank is our first pub venture.

Our co-founder Toby likes to tell people, about the origins of our name,: “ A Zazu is an exotic bird which is the first up and last to bed… a bit like us.”.

It’s not actually true. He made it up.

It is an African bird. - a fairly plain one, sadly - and we have no idea about its habits. But Toby’s little jest does sum us up..

Zazus Kitchen is about people, food and neighbourhood. And an all-day service..

We chose to open in Easton because the Greenbank perfectly fits our values and aspirations: an iconic building in the heart of a strong, supportive local community.

We see our job as providing a great local place to meet, socialise, eat, drink, debate, sit peacefully with a good book, send an email, catch up with friends or enjoy a great cup of coffee or glass of wine in the courtyard sun and just be…. All day long.

We began life as a small outpost in a strong, neighbourhood community, Stokes Croft, on the corner of Jamaica St, Bristol. We’ve since moved on but our roots remain the same.

Being a part of a local community is a key to who we are.

FROM REAL ALES TO FINE WINE AND EVERYTHING IN BETWEEN

As a free house, we are able to offer a wide range of real ales, craft beers and great ciders. With such a wide variety on offer, the only characteristic they all share is quality.

The wine list is pretty good too, encompassing rich winter reds to celebratory champers - a tipple for every occasion.

And from toasting to roasting, we're really making a stir with our coffee, supplied by local caffeine artisans 'Extract Roasters' in St Werburghs.

SIMPLE, FRESH AND GOOD VALUE

From cakes and a coffee to quality bar snacks and our range of gastro pizzas and bowls.

All made by our staff fresh, on site.

And the Sunday lunches are a must ! No, really...

Much of what we buy is sourced locally. All of our pizzas are stone baked using flour from Shipton Mill, in the Cotswolds. We are proud of our other wonderful suppliers too, who include, in no particular order: Chefs Deli, French Garden, Ruby and White, Powells of Olveston, Wings of St Mawes, The Bristol Sweet Mart and Chaudhrys Mega Mart

Bristol Punchline Preview Week: John Luke-Roberts & Spencer Jones
Monday 11 July at 7:30pm & 9pm

Tonight's show features Spencer Jones as The Herbert, and John-Luke Roberts

SPENCER JONES - Expect an hour of absolutely joyful buffoonery from Spencer as The Herbert. As seen on Live From The BBC and stuff like Still Open All Hours. His 2015 Edinburgh show was a total delight and saw Spence swag Best Performer and Best Show as voted by his fellow performers.

JOHN-LUKE ROBERTS - Alternative Comedy Memorial Society co-host, and co-writer of Robert Lyndsay and Maureen Lipman’s sitcom Bull, his 2015 Edinburgh show was lauded by critics and audience, and we are excited to see what is in store for this year.

“A raw, fearless, boundary-pushing hour of introspective clowning and provocative anti-comedy” Time Out ****

First show starts at 7.45pm, second show at 9pm. Doors open at 7.30pm and latecomers may not be admitted. Buy your tickets here.

Bristol Punchline Preview Week: Danielle Ward & Ellen Waddell
Tuesday 12 July at 7:30pm & 9pm

Tonight's show features Danielle Ward and Ellen Waddell.

DANIELLE WARD - Being a teenager in the 90s was hard enough (Do you prefer Blur, Oasis or Throbbing Gristle?) but now there's a whole new set of things to worry about. How much pubic hair should you have? Can feminists enjoy hip hop? Why is fruit suddenly bad for you? Let the host of hit podcast Do The Right Thing guide you through this difficult time with stand-up, songs and one sexually explicit mime.

You might recognise Danielle's face from Mock The Week, NBC's Last Comic Standing and Charlie Brooker's Screenwipe, or her voice from The News Quiz, Dilemma and Dave Gorman's Show on Absolute Radio. "Ward really shines... an adept musician as well as a talented comic" (Three Weeks) ***

ELLEN WADDELL - We lie to our friends, family, lovers and bosses because it’s easier than the truth - we have no idea what we’re doing, and we might have genital warts. In her new show former rock star and acclaimed performer Ellen Waddell (‘Jean-Luc Picard and Me’) tackles the necessity of lying in life, love, friendship and when applying for administrative jobs at truck logistics companies.

Starring Ellen and a Chair.

First show starts at 7.45pm, second show at 9pm. Doors open at 7.30pm and latecomers may not be admitted. Buy your tickets here.

Bristol Punchline Preview Week: Josie Long & Grace Petrie
Wednesday 13 July at 7:30pm & 9pm

Tonight's show features Josie Long and Grace Petrie.

JOSIE LONG - Thrice nominated for the Edinburgh Comedy Award, Josie joins us for a Work In Progress show. One of our favourite humans!

GRACE PETRIE - Grace Petrie is a songwriter, activist and performer who has toured with the likes of Emmy the Great, Billy Bragg and Robin Ince. She is a frequent guest on BBC Radio 4’s the Now Show, recently appeared on the 'Jeremy Corbyn 4 PM' tour and was on the Independent on Sunday’s 2013 Pink List of influential LGBT figures. She's an absolute smasher.

First show starts at 7.45pm, second show at 9pm. Doors open at 7.30pm and latecomers may not be admitted. Buy your tickets here.

Bristol Punchline Preview Week: Adam Hess & Holly Burn
Thursday 14 July at 7:30pm & 9pm

Tonight's show features Adam Hess and Holly Burn.

ADAM HESS - Adam Hess! Adam Hess! Riding through the glen! Adam Hess! Adam Hess! With his merry men. I don't want to mislead you I just thought it sounded good to put his name to the Robin Hood song. There will be no merry men, except for those in the audience. Am I right?

Anyone that caught Hess at our place back in March will remember a lightning fast, totally hilarious and quite charming performance. Nominated for a Fosters Edinburgh Comedy Award last year wasn't he?

“For good quality gags per minute there is no better comedian at the fringe” **** The Independent

HOLLY BURN - Holly Burn is very special. She knows it, you know it, the world just needs to know it. Well this is her chance to tell the world...

Stewart Lee's Fringe Recommendation 2015: "A proper mad comedian."

James Acaster's Top Comedy Picks 2015 -The Guardian : "One of my favourite acts to watch ever."

First show starts at 7.45pm, second show at 9pm. Doors open at 7.30pm and latecomers may not be admitted. Buy your tickets here.

Bristol Punchline Preview Week: Nish Kumar & Pat Cahill
Friday 15 July at 7:30pm & 9pm

Tonight's show features Nish Kumar and Pat Cahill.

NISH KUMAR - Last year Nish blew the roof off The Greenbank with his show and we were not at ALL surprised when he was nominated for the Fosters Edinburgh Comedy Award.

Since then he's gone on to be on the telly a lot, frankly a bit too much. We've been wondering if he's found time to really write a new show but he promises us he has. Only one way to find out, we thought.

"A tight, smart set from a comic who confesses self-absorption while engaging expansively with the way we live now."**** Guardian

PAT CAHILL - Pat's 2015 show 'PANJANDRAM' was such a gleeful delight that we got him back in February to do it again. Time Out agreed, naming it one of the Top 10 shows of 2015.

He's promised us that his plans for this year's show are ambitious and perhaps a bit crazy, so we signed him up on the spot.

First show starts at 7.45pm, second show at 9pm. Doors open at 7.30pm and latecomers may not be admitted. Buy your tickets here.

Magnetic Sense Field
